About Silken Hour
Silken Hour was founded in 2019 with a simple vision: to create a space in Kaohsiung where people could experience authentic Thai bodywork in an environment that honors both tradition and individual comfort. The name reflects our belief that wellness unfolds gently, like silk, when given time and care.
Our approach draws from traditional Thai healing practices passed down through generations of practitioners. These techniques combine acupressure, assisted stretching, and rhythmic movements to support the body's natural ability to find balance. We've studied these methods carefully and continue to deepen our understanding through ongoing learning and practice.
What sets Silken Hour apart is our commitment to adapting these time-honored practices to each individual's needs. We recognize that every person who walks through our door arrives with a unique set of experiences, preferences, and areas of tension. Rather than following a rigid protocol, we take time to listen and adjust our approach accordingly.
The herbs we use in our steam treatments and compresses are sourced from trusted suppliers and prepared fresh for each session. Lemongrass, turmeric, kaffir lime, and camphor blend together to create aromatic experiences that support both physical relaxation and mental clarity. These traditional blends have been used in Thai healing for centuries, and we take care to honor their proper preparation.
Our location on Sanduo 3rd Road was chosen for its accessibility and the peaceful quality of the surrounding area. Inside, we've designed our treatment spaces with attention to temperature, lighting, and sound, creating an environment that encourages the body and mind to settle into a state of receptivity.
Over the years, we've had the privilege of working with people from various walks of life, each bringing their own goals and questions. Some seek relief from physical discomfort, others are curious about traditional Thai practices, and many simply want to carve out time for rest in their busy schedules. We welcome all of these intentions and work to support each person where they are.

Our Approach to Thai Wellness
Thai massage represents one of the oldest healing traditions in Southeast Asia, developed over centuries by practitioners working with monks and healers. The practice combines elements from Ayurvedic medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, and indigenous Thai healing knowledge. Rather than focusing solely on muscles, Thai bodywork addresses the body's energy pathways, working to release blockages and support natural flow.
The techniques involve assisted stretching, acupressure along specific energy lines, and rhythmic compression using hands, elbows, knees, and feet. Practitioners work from a grounded stance, using body weight rather than muscular force to apply pressure. This approach allows for sustained, even pressure that encourages the body to release tension gradually rather than forcing change.
Herbal steam therapy prepares the body for deeper work by opening pores and warming muscles. The aromatic qualities of traditional Thai herbs engage the senses while the heat promotes circulation. Warm herbal compresses deliver sustained warmth and the therapeutic properties of the herb blend directly to specific areas, particularly beneficial for stiff joints and chronic tension patterns.
Kaohsiung's subtropical climate influences how we approach bodywork. The humidity and temperature affect how the body holds tension and responds to treatment. We adjust our techniques and the temperature of treatment spaces seasonally to work with rather than against the local climate conditions.
Thai bodywork traditionally involved community practice, with family members learning basic techniques to support each other's wellbeing. While modern life has shifted this dynamic, we aim to honor the spirit of that tradition by creating a welcoming space where people feel comfortable asking questions and learning about their own bodies.
The practice requires patience from both practitioner and recipient. Changes unfold gradually as the body learns to release habitual patterns of holding. Some people notice shifts after a single session, while others find that regular sessions over time bring more lasting benefits. We encourage people to approach the practice with curiosity rather than expectation, allowing their experience to unfold naturally.
